Firefox Extensions
This is a list of extensions I use daily and cannot imagine my life without them. They are my morning star, side by side with my morning coffee.
Tab Mix Plus - this makes Firefox’s tabbed interface quite bearable.
AdBlock - this makes your browsing experience better by killing annoying ads inside web pages.
Image Zoom - allows you to zoom any image in or out with a click of a mouse. You’ll love this if you’re running extreme resolutions. I’m running 1600x1200 and it’s a lifesaver.
Context Search - this is also a nifty little extension, from the same author as Context Highlight. This extension allows you to search your current selection with all installed Mycroft (Search bar) plugins. I use this A LOT.
BugMeNot - this extension allows you to go around compulsory registration at stupid web sites which won’t let you download software without registering first. This extension uses the BugMeNot service.
FlashGot - this is a nice lightweight extension which allows you to do all sorts of kinky stuff with your download manager (I use GetRight, but it supports a lot of others) and Firefox.
ieview - I sometimes come across a page that misbehaves in Firefox. I then use this extension to open IE at that page and see it. I also use this when developing webapps to see how my apps work under IE.
Download Manager Tweak - as the name says, this tweaks the firefox DM.
WebDeveloper - I discovered this one while I was writing this very page. This extension ROCKS and ANYONE developing web apps or web pages should MOST DEFINITELY go check it out.
Text/plain - this allows you to open URLs that have not been linked by right-clicking them. awesome.
GreaseMonkey - one of the most popular extensions for Firefox to date, GreaseMonkey can run user-written (or installed) JavaScripts on any website, allowing you to customize any web page the way you see fit. This really does show off the raw power Firefox has over any other browser available today.
Google Suggest search plugin - this will add Google Suggest to your search bar. Priceless.
PDF download - finally! no more suprise attacks from PDF files. take control and browse happy because with this extension, you’ll never worry about PDF files again!
Google Images relinker - re-links Google Images search results to point directly to the images. Also priceless.
And this is a list of extensions I used to use, but gave up on, either because I found better ones that do the same thing or because of annoying bugs.
ColorZilla - EyeDropper extension, great for web designers.
I’ve found a cool blog that maintains a list of FF extensions that could make FF look and feel more like Opera. Go check out FirefoxOpera, they have some really cool extensions listed there.
